Hankook Z211 R compound 205 50 15

$80. These are new, discountinued tires. They are Hankook's hard compound C31, they make a soft, med, hard compound. The replacement tire, the Z214 costs $180.

I bought a set from RACE TIRES DIRECT.

The tires are fresh, don't look like they have been sitting around. I am going to the track next week to try them out. I'll update the thread as to how they work out. The harder compound may be good for me because at lower speed tracks I do get some wheelspin which just eats up the softer compound tires.

The Hankook street tire I posted about a few weeks ago is based on this tire.

When I was looking around a couple weeks ago I saw one shop saying that 120 or so tires were left but the update was about a month old.
This is the same size that miatas use, so they could go anytime.

I don't know if racing tires are mandated like street tires but all street tires have a date code cast in. Tires made prior to 2000 used a 3 digit code and tires cast in 2000 and up use a 4 digit code. Its usually set in an oval and reads like this week/yr so the first 2 digits would be week and be a number between 01 and 52. (any 2 digit number higher then 52 is not the date code) this week code is the same for 3 and 4 digit codes. The year is on 3 digit (prior to 2000) as just the last digit of the year.(0 to 9) On the 4 digit castings it is the last 2 digits of the year. So since they started this in 2000 the only last 2 digits cast so far are 00 to 08. So a 4707 would be the 47th week of 2007. Its that easy. Most street tires have this on the backside or blackwall side of a tire near the rim edge.

So, how did the tires fair? Did you have them shaved or just use as stickers?

Sorry for the late response. (I did not shave these. I ran full tread).

I finally ran the car (omni) at NHMS yesterday at an open test session. The tires did very well. Grip was good and they wore very well. This is a tough track on tires. There are two sections that you are going to get some wheelspin. The hankooks dealt with the wheel spin very well. Hoosiers don't at all.

From what I've read this compound should wear as good as a Toyo RA-1 and is at least as fast.

Yesterday was 90 degrees here. The tires did not overheat or go away after a 30 minute session.

I'm glad a couple turbododge guys picked these up too. You will be very happy with them. For $80. a tire it was a no brainer for me. Anything to help the budget and still have fun is good!
BTW: I ran 34 psi front, 30 rear and was pretty happpy with that to start, then I took out 2 psi on the front hot. No problems with the sidewalls. It's a nice stiff tire.
