Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep intermediate drive shaft from rusting onto the inner CV Axel? Just spent about 3 hours knocking the hell out of the inner CV spline Axel out of the Intermediate drive shaft on Turbo model.

Should the intermediate drive shaft be packed with grease?

Also does anyone know where the carrier bearing on the intermediate drive shaft can be purchased?

Try coating the splines with anti-sieze compound.

That sounds like a good idea, have you tried anti-seize n the past?

The darn intermediate drive shaft gets water trapped inside the axle and then the rust sets in. I had one a few years back that wouldn't come apart. I had to get newer intermediate shaft from junk yard. As usual dealer gave up on parts along time ago.

Thanks,

Ron

Not on a drive axle but I use anti-sieze at work and home for lube(great for brakes, wheel studs, etc.) and parts that will have to come apart again. We just recently had my head off and everything that was rusted or difficult coming apart got cleaned and anti-sieze on reassambly.
I work at a Jeep dealer and Jeeps with the NV242 transfer case had a problem with the rear driveshaft front yoke binding on the transfer case output shaft so when you stop you would feel a clunk under the car as the driveshaft would move to its rest position after you stopped, the fix is to remove the driveshaft and lube the output shaft splines and front yoke splines, I use anti-sieze, works everytime.
Lube up the splines, work the shaft back and forth to spread the anti-sieze and then recoat and assemble.

Inner CV joints and the intermediate shaft bearings are NLA as far as I know. Your best bet is to get them from the junkyard. Autozone rebuilds are ok, but dont last long at all. Someone on here managed to find replacement bearings for the intermedaite shaft, but they were $$$. If you cant find a good one, just run a long axle on that side.

I've ditched the un-equal length pass-side axle for the longer one. Torque steer is no problem unless you race. No issues for 5+ years..
