1990 dodge daytona es 2.5 turbo

current tires are 205 55 r15

i want to put bfg drag radial t/a's on it, but they apparently only make 205 50 r15's...

is this okay?

pros/cons?

the 205 is width, 50 is how tall the sidewall is, r= radial, 15 means 15" wheel size, running a smaller tire is fine, 55's won't rub so 50's definately won't rub, as for the DR's i've never used them so can't speak on that.

apparently my car shouldnt even have the current 55's on there..the manual lists 205 60 r15's and 225 50 r15's on 6.5" wide rims

I believe when going to a lower sized tire the sidewall strength increases making allowing the car to handle better, I believe that my tona also runs 55 but can't remember for sure

But with a 50 at low pressure it gives it room when you light up the tires and they expand so it won't rub on the strut.

auto or manual trans? your chose tires depend on what kind of trap speed and what gear your in a the 1/4 mile mark. smaller tires might mean a extra shift in a manual trans car. 2.5's also have tons of torque so bigger the better anyway's, 205/50/15 are too small in my opinion, Drags Radails = alot of money for little traction, slicks are best, but that depends on what class you run in.

okay here is my reasoning:

mickey thompson slicks

PROS

unbeatable drag racing traction

CONS

cant use them on the street, so without spending more bucks for additional tires and wheels, my car will lose every stoplight race on the street (my current tires are HORRIBLE)

more expensive then drag radials ($324 for two mounted)

BFGOODRICH DRAG RADIAL T/A's

PROS

less expensive ($283 for two mounted)
can use them on the street
no extra wheels or work needed to go from street to strip
apparently these have GREAT traction, every review I have read compares them second only to actual slicks

CONS

not as good as slicks

SO....what do I do?

I have a manual transmission

the drag radials are only available for 6" rims in:

205 50 15

and

225 50 15

Do I have 6" or 6.5" rimes? Its the snowflake rims.

you have a 6 inch rim,
Well if you plan on more street then strip go for the drag radails, but I know 205/55/15 look small on a shadow, I can imagine 205/50/15 would look tiny on a daytona.
What is the stock size for a daytona anyway?
Compare the 225/50's and the stock size might be closer

according to my user manual the stock sizes were:

185 70 R14 (5.5" rim)

205 60 R15 (6" rim)

225 50 VR15 (6.5" rim)

205 55 R16 (6" rim)

The 205 50 R15's will be about 3/4" smaller in diameter than what i have on their right now. Yikes.

yikes is right, ask a tire shop if they think the 225/50's will fit the 6 inch rim, I would think they would, maybe not ideal but would work
