am i able to just remove the power steering pump and leave the hoses there? Cause id like to get rid of the setup if im not going to use it. Saves the pump from seizing and its also weight reduction. And to the person asking why it gives you more road feel, and takes a tiny load off of the engine, i know its not a big load but it is present. And i personally like the feel of manual steering more. I feel more in control and have a better feeling for the car. Low speeds arent too hard to turn the wheel but higher speeds steer well and you have much control of the car. Look at Formula 1 cars and nascar cars, do you see them with power steering, absolutely not.

You will have to install a manual rack and pinion unit.
Did they make one for a Daytona?
If they did are the intermidiate shaft and column the same?
I do not have those answers, the last car I drove with manual steering was my 72 Duster and that was like driving a truck.

they do make a manual rack for the car but the lower column joint is listed as different for manual vs p/s. i have yet to get one to compare as i am looking to do the same. it frees up hp and as you said better feeling, for roadracing .

hey norm would i be able to just disconnect the belt going to the pump? I would think so since it is the only unit driven by that certain belt. Also i read elsewhere that you can leave it on but plumb one hose from the inlet to outlet so that the pump will not seize up but at the same time is not feeding fluid to the power steering unit
