Hey everyone i had my 1988 shelby z jacked up the other day to remove the engine when i noticed something. The springs on the front of the car are not perfect coils like i have seen on most other cars. It seems as if they have collapsed or something, they almost look like they are deformed or something. I will try and get pictures of them but if anyone knows what im talking about please help me out here!

one or both ends of spring may be tapered and/or have flattened /partial coils

I'm sorry - I was unclear: that is fine, that is the way they are manufactured

its probablty sitting lower and bottoming out on the bump stops (internal to the strut)

if the struts are shot too I'll bet its a ruffrider

coil springs are very common ; the G body interchanges with the P H AA K EEK etc (AFAIK - if incorrect someone please jump in)

the Z would have had stiffer springs from the factory ; look for another z (obviously) for perfect interchange, or you could certainly run softer springs (from a non Z) if you chose too, with a subsequent decrease in handling

you can also buy aftermarket (stiffer) springs

any good spring shop should be able to get these new also

Get some new springs before you damaged your car.

It is foolish to keep driving on those springs.

I'd get some new Eibach springs, probably get new struts and top bearing to boot. EIBACH springs come in set that will cover front and back of Daytona. I've seen the as low as 170 to 225 for new set. The car will ride like a top also.

After 20+ years any old springs on junker have seen better days.

ok so your suggestion is to get new struts and springs for the front? Any suggestion on where to get them, and which ones to get exactly? I see some on FWDperformance but im unsure which ones to get.

there are many threads in this section discussing these topics

the short answer is: there is no short answer

it depends on $$ , performance goals, etc
