I just put new pads on my 90 VNT just like I've done several times in the past. This time, both driver side brakes are getting so freakin hot after about 20 minutes, one will actually start SMOKIN !I've never had this problem before.
What is your best guess ?????

Calipers sticking due to frozen slides, damaged seals in calipers or a hydraulic problem that will not allow them to release.

+1 Is just one brake that's smoking, fronts/rears, or is it all four?

are you buying the $40 pads or the $7 pads?

My buddy put some pads on his car that did that. He was short on money so he bought the cheapest Autobone pads they had. I told him to at least get some decent Bendix or Raybestos pads. He disagreed and the pads cocked in the slides and had to be messed with until they worked right.

lmao...

I've done quite afew brake jobs in my life...

Honestly i wouldn't worry about it unless it keeps happening for the next 500 or some miles...

Pads dont wear that fast so it may just be them breaking in, residual maching grease on new rotors???, or grease just from doing the job, ie a split cv boot will leave grease everywhere just getting a little on the friction surface will cause smoking....and as long as your pedal feels good....

^If brakes get so hot that they smoke, they won't even last 500 miles. Something is seriously wrong & needs to be fixed before the car becomes a hazard.

yeah, if the rim is hot to the touch after just a spin around the block then those pads are dragging. Just have to find out whats causing it. I figure the original poster has got it worked out by now. If not, he should update this thread and we can put our heads together on it.

I've had more problems with clogged hoses myself on these cars. A lot of the cars are running around with original hoses. This probably isn't the case if it's more than one wheel. But, if you jack up the car and the wheel won't turn, crack the bleeder screw loose. If then it turns, you're hose is shot.
