Hey,
I've got an 86 daytona I like to convert the rear drums to rotors. I just got an 87 daytona parts car with rear rotors. Can I just swap these and change the proportioning valve?

If you are wanting to use the stock e-brake setup, you want to find an 89+ setup for the rear disc brakes, that way the e-brake cable will work fine. But in short you swap over proportion valve, master cylinder, front brakes from a pre-90 mini van, and rear disc setup. And you pretty much are done. I did the swap on my old Rampage and it worked great. There are parts of the SLH setup that have flaws in it, but it is a good setup to run with.

Thanks for the input. I was going to pull the discs off of a 87 donor car. I didn't know if it was worth the time. Would it be a big improvment over the drum?

i swapped 88 shelby z rotors onto my 89shadow a while back. easy and straight foward conversion. for the ebrake i just made some spacers to make them work. but check your master cyl. and see what size the piston is. it will be written on the top in the front.

I believe the 87 rear calipers tend to have the screw style E brake that is specific and known to be crap.

Last I knew reman calipers for the 91 setup were $17 each at autozone so if you can get cores cheap that would be the way to go(but better have 11" fronts to go w/ th e11" vented rears)

I converted an '86 Laser over to 4 wheel disc using 11" vented rotors from a '90 Daytona with 16" wheels. I also pulled the spindles, so that the calipers would bolt on. The 16" setups are hard to find, but well worth the effort and fit the 15" wheels.

I really don't want to go out and buy new or used parts for rear discs. I have a parts car and just wondered if it's worth the swap. If the rotors and calipers are really no better than the drums on the 86 CS I have than maybe just leave it as is? Still have to fix the Fred Flintstone floor boards. Maybe If I don't fix the floors a better pair of shoes.
