dropping k-frame / bushings

on my 89 daytona I'm going to replace my control arm bushings and sway bar bushings - I'm thinking it might be easier in the long run to tie the steering rack up, drop the entire k-frame/control arm assembly and do the bushing swap with the k-frame out of the car.

Am I missing anything here? It seems like it would be pretty straightforward to disconnect the ball joints, unbolt/tie up rack, and drop the whole shebang. I could even por-15 it all while it's off the car.

Any opinions?

sounds like a good plan
makes things easier to work on
and like you said you could clean it up a little
after swapping all that out it would be a good idea to get it aligned too.

I just recently did this, but I left the steering rack on the k-frame. The only hard part I needed help with was aligning the part where the steering colum meets the steering rack. Other than that it was relatively straightforward.

good luck!

what type of pivot bushings are you using, where are you getting them and how much do they cost, I have run into a problem where its going to cost me 200+ for new bushings from the dealer

Quickor & Energy Suspension offer packages that are better than factory-if you are going thru the hassle of doing them, go Polyeurethane.

Mine are energy suspension bushings, part # 5.3107. Supposedly the right ones for my 89 daytona, time will tell. You can find them at:

www.fwdperformance.com

Go to catalog->suspension->rebuild/bushings
