ive seen many tires like that over the years. when i was working at the local toyota dealer, this 70+ year old farmer came in for an oil change and chassis lube etc. his truck was only 7 years old and had around 40,000 miles on it. wasnt beat up or anything like that. the guy mainly would drive through his fields and take care of his farm etc, you know farmer stuff. when i pulled this thing in it felt like it had footballs for tires- every single one of em had major belt separation similar to the 3rd pic down iin that series. all 4 of em were like that! scary thing is he actually drove on the highway like that to get to the dealership. 70+ years old driving on 4 badly separated tires at highway speed. and old people wonder why people want to take their licenses away.
another one happened when i was working at firestone. the guy didnt like the fact that his separated tire wouldnt pass a safety inspection. " im not falling for that theres plenty of tread there, you just wana sell me a tire ya damn punk!" lo and behold the highway patrol was there that day checking our inspection records. i clued him in on what was going on. the highway patrolman politely explained that the tread was separated, and the tire was not safe to drive on no matter how much tread was left, and that it was within his right to refuse to buy a tire. but until he replaced the tire, no one would pass the car on a safety inspection, and if he attempted to drive the car out of the parking lot he would pull him over, be given a ticket for driving with defective tires, a reckless endangerment ticket, AND have his caddilac towed to county impound. needless to say i was mounting up a new tire 10 minutes later......
