Bought a new cable from rockauto. Had to cut the old one out due to rust. Put the new one in and theres nothing to hold it in, like a retainer. Is this on the old one? I didn't see one when I looked at it, maybe there was one covered in rust camo.

The part that goes into the car under the rubber cover part just slips back under the car. Recommendations?

I wouldn't be so quick to blame Rockauto...if you're referring to the forward cable that pulls from the brake lever...the aftermarket manufacturer seems to be making them a bit longer than the original cable sheath....and the cable stays in place via tension...there were no retaining clips on the replacement cable that I got for my car as well. Thought the same thing...wrong cable...but a further check at the counter showed the same part # for all the applications the cable fits.

I only blame them because 4 out of my 6 orders have been missing pieces. So yes, I will be quick to do so. If the new cable they sell is held in place by tension, so be it. when I pose a question and I get responses telling me it's supposed to have a retainer and it doesn't, I get a little heated. When I order a part it should be replacable with minimum down time.
