Hey all...It's finally time I got some $ so I was wondering about a good suspension set up for my 89 Daytona shelby. The struts and shocks are ok in my opinion but I want to lower the ride about an inch or 1.5"...I've been rading up and I want to know if I'd need some new struts and shocks if I were to get some different springs but I don't think I really inderstand the concept of valving? and will the stock struts be ok? also..can I just replace the front end suspension for a little more aggressive look or is it wise to do it all at once? I have roughly $500 US...any advice? THANKS!

I would do it all at once, which is what I did. On my 85 SC, I bought the MP lowering springs & Monroe Formula GP shocks. The springs don't lower the car much, maybe 1/2" but it's a nice solid ride, no bouncing. I don't recommend cutting the original springs or any spring, if you lower it too much, you will get a crappy/bouncy ride because the shock is not in it's operating range anymore. Try Mopar Performance or the Tire Rack

Here's the setup I've got on my Daytona:

KYB GR-2 struts
KYB gas-adjust shocks
Eibach springs
front and rear strut tower bars

The KYB's are pretty good for the price I think, but the front bounces a little too much I think. I'm not sure how other companies' struts would compare. I would probably buy them again just because they are cheap. The car handles really well and people are surprised regularly at how well it does around corners. It seems to push a little when you go into a corner really hard, but nothing thats too excessive. I like the setup I've got for how little it cost. I'm not sure how much lower the car sits, but looking at old pics of it and what it looks like now you can definitely see it.

I've got an Addco rear swaybar in the garage. This summer I'm also gonna make a new panhard rod, box in the rear axle, and get those trailing arm to frame bushings from Quickor. I'm also considering cutting a little bit off of the front springs to get the front a little bit lower. Hoping with all of that done it will be like its on rails.

I would not go for anything less than Monroe Formula GP's if you plan to use lowering springs as they have the needed valving to control the rate of the springs to keep them from bouncing. If you can afford it than Koni's rule.....if not Gp's are good.....Bilstein would be my next choice after that. Eibach springs for a Shadow along with a strut tower bar for a neon up front (maybe a Quickor front swaybar if your very serious) For the back the aformentioned Koni's/ eibachs as well as a CS Racing shock tower bar.....yes you can make your own cheap, but I prefer to support our vendors.....and a CS Racing Panhard bar (track bar) and again a Quickor swaybar if your serious.

With the right tire choice the car will scare the hell out of you and handle better than you have the balls to push!

I recommend the ST springs, they are a lower drop than the Eibach and are not so sever in the spring rates that you need the Konis too control them properly and the car handles tight the KYB/ST combo, just the flexy T-tops that don't help it none lol
