hey dude,

been autocrossing awhile and finally getting a shadow rebuilt back up. on a side note i will probably be purchasing that panhard rod from you soon since it will keep me from always rubbing the paint off my one koni .

anyway, going front coil overs and want to do "coil-overs" in the back. heard that you might be trying to mount springs with an adjustable perch in the back. have you come up with anything?

tell me what you think of the following setup...
* koni fronts and rears (will do a truechoice revalve after i wear them out from the spring rates )
* 1 1/4" front bar with around a 1 1/6" solid rear bar (can resize accordingly, but should give me a good neutral feel)
* 430 lb/in coil over front
* 2 different coils for the back... 410 lb/in and 460 lb/in

here is why i think the setup is good (since it is mostly a track and sunny good smooth road car)....
based on my roll from my last autocross season as seen in the following picture, i could use less. the setup was koni front and back, eibauch springs, front half stiff and rear full stiff. this was the best handling and could haved used some more oversteer.

(note the offset in the rear wheels from lowering )
the reason/logic behind the springs is to change the rate i change into and in-between corners. now the rear is more of a science project and have a feeling that the lower spring rate will be my road race spring and the front will be my autocross. alll in all when combined with the next tid-bit of info, i think i will be very potent, but i need some opinion/refinement.

i will be running a 245/45/16 hoosier on 16x8.5 rim (still trying to find a good selection) with probably some form of spacer. camber plates up front and then a custom machine spacer for inbetween the spindle and axle to give me little toe out and good camber since it will be definently be needed with the above setup. i also have a quaife and will be running the nice tall 568 gears with a 3.5 ring gear. it will be a supercharged v6 with good clean even powerband with lots of other goodies.

on another note what rims are you using?

anyway, enough rambleing for the night.

thanks for any advice.

Hey Frank,

Doing the adjustable perch thing in the rear will be the next project, as soon as i get the motor back in, which should be in the next month.

It sound like you are on the right track with the spring rates. I currently run 450 up front and 275 in the rear (MP springs). I will probably end up with around 460 in the rear after converting to the adj perch setup.

Your sway bar selection is good too, the solid rear bar is a nice upgrade, you may want to consider boxing in your rear axle too. I have the dimensions of the piece of steel that you will need on my site. My dimensions are for a Daytona, but I think the axle is the same in the Shadow. You can also fine tune your suspension with tire pressures to help understeer/oversteer.

Hoosiers are really sticky, but they are typically wider than say a Kumho of the same size, Just make sure that you will have enough clearance in the rear. I one put a 225/50/16 on my shadow and they rubbed the fender lip bad.

I am running a 245/45-16 on a 16x7.5 wheel. I am getting some SSR Competition wheels 16x7.5 (12 lbs) as soon as tire rack gets them back in stock.

Supercharged V6 eh? that sounds like you will have a really potent package.

Later,

thanks for the response. its good to hear opinions before finalizing the process. i forgot to mention that the picture you saw had a 1" solid rear bar. since the torsion setup isnt as exponentially great as a true anti swaybar, i might have to do the boxing of the rear axle even with the 1 1/6" bar. we shall see.

yeh fenders might get in the way, but nothing that i cant solve hehehehe. with the rear having better spring rates, it might not be as bad, but i have a felling that i may need to do some grinding. that is hard to say. but 245's are going to be needed. oh and i made a mistake... it will be 245/45/17 hoosiers which are the same tire diameter as the 245/50/16.

yeh i have lots of stuff in the works for how it going to be setup, but it shall be quite potent. i am working for increasing lots of flow and high end of the motor so that when combined with the supercharger, i have a nice even powerband across the board. i also plan on getting the motor to around 7500rpms so that should go well with the transmission setup. but only time will tell.

if you are planning to go with mega $$ for rims, i would suggest the volk racing wheels. they have a better selection of sizes and offsets for some applications and still very lite. rays engineering makes them. i am still working on who to buy them from but you can find the link here...

here are the wheels i am looking at in the white flavor. it is the 17x8.5" rim.

later dude

you can also eliminate the front swaybar with heavier springs.

but at the cost of destroying the koni's... and to be honest, i think it changes the way the car behaves all around and wont help much. plus i need my car super level and almost to the point of skipping if it isnt for the wide hoosiers and neg camber
