loud noise like a bad tire

I've got a rather sudden onset of a loud front end noise, kinda like excess road noise from a noisy tread tire.

Can this be due to a wheel bearing or CV joint on its way out?

It isn't related to engine speed, for what that's worth. I can shift into neutral (A-413) while at highway speed, no change in the noise.

It isn't clunking or grinding, just sounds like I put an off-road tire on.

Any ideas?

'89 daytona, original wheel bearings/driveshafts....

sounds like a wheel bearing.. while driving if you change lanes quickly does the noise go away? if so, prolly a wheel bearing.

If I take a sweeping right turn the noise goes away, resumes as soon as I straighten out.

Still guessing wheel bearing? I'm wondering if I go to the trouble of replacing it, should I just do the driveshaft at the same time...

Alright, you talked me into it.

I believe my 89 daytona has the press-in bearings, not the bolt-in. I'll have to crawl under the beast and make sure.

Thanks,

John

No shelby though, just daytona ES.

If they are bolt-in that will be awesome - but I don't think they are. The bolt-in don't have a 3-bolt retainer on the tire side, do they?

Because I saw that 3-bolt retainer on there when I was replacing my rotors...so I'm thinking press-in.
