What tires do you use on your 15x6.5" & 16x6" wheels?

What model & size tires do you run?

My tona is a daily driver so I want comfort and decent all season traction tires.

Also looking for a size that will not go w/every bump in the road

Also would like the same info for 16x6" wheels because I may put some pumpers on the car.

I use Cooper Cobra ZHP01s 225/50zr16 on my 16" Pumpers. They're quite expensive, but they grip GREAT. They also have a 320 treadwear rating so they should actually last a while....

225/50 r16 and 215/55r16 kumho 712 ecsta supras both sell for around 70 bucks and ride pretty decent, great tire for the price.

for the 15s id go with 225/50 215/60 or 225/60r15 sumitomo htr200s, i know i say it all the time but i love these things to death! cheap, last a LONG time relatively (40k if you're nice to em) grip REAL good for the price in dry and especially in wet, and are super quiet. they even ride good at 40psi, which is what i run em at. they're wearing even at that pressure too. attractive tread pattern. just like em a lot. around 50 bucks a piece.

if you want a pure cruising tire that will last forever, grip in ALL conditions, super cheap, good warranty, ride great and totally silent, id get 205/65 or 215/65r15 yokohama avid tourings. around 50 bucks a piece.

keep in mind tho that your tona can go a LOT faster than the avid touring is rated for, so if you regularly break 120 you may wanna look elsewhere.

Once again, I have to suggest the Yokohama AVS ES100's in any size.

Wouldn't 225's be too wide for 6" wide rims? I mean I thought I read somewhere that 225's seemed to be a bit too wide for 6.5" crabs, even. They talked about the sidewall mooshing under during hard cornering.

Something else I was informed... at my work we have customers who come in with big fat tires on the stock rims on their frikkin-4Runners... where the tire is just plain too wide for the rim, but the sidewall is big enough that it'll still fit... but what happens is the beads of the tire are pinched too close together, and this causes the center of the tread to balloon outward and it wears like it's overinflated.... so we're told to deflate the tire pressure to approx 29psi so they'll wear a little more evenly. (Tire pressure for the smaller stock tire is 32psi).

This is not the customer doing this though... the frikken-4runner could be ordered with these huge tires... part of the SUV ideal, bigger tires sell!

So...
So say if the stock tire on my ShelbyZ is 225/50-15 and I want to upgrade to 16" pumpers, wouldn't it be better if I go with 215/40(45?)-16s? Not as wide but a lower profile, and the overall diameter remains the same for the speedo.

I'm thinking if I go with 225's on pumpers, the beads might be pinched too close together and the tread will wear away in the middle. And I'm not lowering my pressures!

I agree with the recommendation for the Yokohama AVS ES 100's but they're not an all season tire.

225/50's will fit on a 6" rim but it's not recommended and the handling isn't the greatest.

I had a set of Pirelli P7000 Supersports that I was happy with. Z rated and all season. Never had them in the snow so I can't speak for that.

Get the Falken Azenis Sport model tires. They only come in a 205-50-15 for a 15" rim. I have a set on my 6" pumpers right now. They aren't meant for daily driving, all season tires, but if you're after a real grippy tire for minimal moola, get these. ($72 each)

Cooper Lifeliner SLE touring rock in the fact size on either tire. In either size I believe they have a 50k mile treadwear warranty. Very impressive tire. My wife's 2k Maxima sports a set of 225/50r17 SLE tourings and it totally changed the cars handling and braking.

A couple people reccomended a 225-50-16 on the 6" wide 16" pumper rims. These tires are too wide for the rim. I just picked up a '90 VNT Daytona and the rears had 225s. It looks funky as the sidewall is sticking out 2" on each side.
I am using Falken Azenis as I had a set of 205-50-15's on my 15" x 6' wide pumpers and they were great. I am going with 205-55-16 on my 16" lace wheels I am using next.

Gotta recommend Dunlop 901s. I know several people running them. They stick like glue.

My brother-in-law has them on his Sunbird and they hooked up great when he ran them at the track. Virtually no wheel spin.

Great handling too.

I agree with H Bomb. I just put a set of Cooper Touring SLE's on my Laser and they handle great in dry and wet conditions. Excellent grip! They have a trtead rating around 580 if I remember correct, so they should last quite awhile. I paid $90 atire though. Higher than most suggested here.

Hi, just wanted to mention

At my work we had a '90 Supra in the other day. I noticed it had 225/50-16 tires on it, but they were mounted on 16"x7" rims. The sidewalls weren't ballooned outward or dorky looking on the wider rims, instead they looked "correct".

So I think that for 15x6.5" crabs I'll stay with 225/50-15's but for 16x6" pumpers I'll use 205/50-16's maybe.

BTW that supra doesn't hold a candle to the Shelby Z... took it for a boot, wasn't impressed...
