I'm going to be buying an 89 Omni soon, and was checking it out closely a while back. I'd noticed that the entire rear suspension seems to be held in the car by 4 bolts! At the swingarm pivots. And not very big bolts at that. Maybe 1/2" threads at the most.

Has anyone ever broken an Omni rear suspension or had one start to tear out of the car? I've never heard of it happening but haven't been here very long.

What about on cars used for autocross and road course racing? What's the weak point in the rear suspension? I could go over the seams with a MIG and brace it up some if that'd help any.

No need. Chrysler wouldn't put a car on the road that was going to have the wheels fall off.

Autocross... yea... 3 wheels around the turn the entire way if the car is set-up right... pretty cool to watch.

...or if you're really worried about it, you could get the Quickor poly bushings for the L-bod rear axel, they come with larger bolts.

I've seen hitches on the back of omni that have been way over loaded and the rear axles haven't fallen out. You should see what's left of Stephan's rear axle set-up on the charger
