Looks like it cracked a while back and got corroded. I've had hoses and rear cylinder failures. It is scary.

I just changed the pads on my 1 ton dodge maxivan. The pistons had a couple small pieces missing from them, about 1/10th the size of yours had missing. It had brand new calipers from Ma Mopar a yr and a half ago. Maybe this is common? Was this on the 86 daily driver CS?

Yep. It stuck in the on position and boiled the brake fluid...45min from home. The previous owner was getting his parts at Crappy Tire...need I say more.
