i checked the tires on my rims now, they are 215/55R15 and they look pretty nice, so ill prob just stick with that size, but i wanted something a little wider and lower profile type but not sure what size to get

No. Bigger offset=less room. Okay, lets take a basic 35mm offset pizza rim 15X6. Now if it were a 40mm offset, the wheel and tire would be 5mm more under the car. If it were only a 30mm offset then the wheel would stick out more. The reason people go to a 38mm offset (Less room/more in) is because you widen the rim by 1". If you didn't change the offset, the wheel would stick out an extra inch and look really ghetto. ~~Heath

are those tires on stock rims, or aftermarket?
if stock, ill prob just stick to the 205/50R15 tires like you are
this is what that kid said about his rims/tires that were on Ebay, the ones i was looking at that were on that WRX
"For sure they will fit any of the Subaru's since the late '80s/early '90s, as
they all share the same hub configuration and have at least similar offset
requirements.
The reason it is a "special" for the WRX, is that the WRX has larger front
brakes. Subaru equips them with 16 inch wheels from the factory, and most 15
inch wheels will not clear the front calipers; these will, just."

I had a set 225/50 kumho ecsta supras on a set of 15''/6.5'' crabs on my 1992 sundance(R.I.P) 2 door. they rubbed a little bit if you turned to lock but the completely changed the handling of the car over the stock 195/60 walmart tires. I could scare the hell out of all my friends in the corners and clover leaf entrance ramps. the only downside(to me) was that with all that rubber the 2.5 n/a would barely chirp second. the day i put the stock tires back on the 'dancer is the day i lost it in a curve, it wouldnt have happened with my kumho's.

To clear the air, offset is wheel center line to hub mounting surface. So the higher the # = the further under the car the wheel is located. A 40mm offset puts the wheel centerline in farther than a 35mm offset. I have personally run both 225/50/15 and 225/45/15 on 15x7's with a 38mm offset. Only thing, the 225/50's did I have a slight problem rubbing the rear fender before I rolled the lip(but autocross tires usually are a bit wider than specified). FWIW, Johnny Spiva used to run 15x8's on the front of his glhs for autocross.
Another thing, don't just go by the number the tire has on its sidewall. My 205/50/15 Azenis are as wide as the 225/50/15 street tires my friend put on his daytona.
