I am looking for the widest 15" rim/tire combo I can put on my charger. I posted this info myself a LONG time ago, but can't seem to find it. I THINK it was a 15X7 rim with 38mm Offset and a 245/40-15 tire, but only if the rear fender lips were rolled up a little.

Anyone have a definitive answer??~~Heath

I would go up to a 7.5" rim at least for that 245mm tire. Best thing to do is measure how much room you actually have in the fender well (both overall and clearance), then use one of the offset calculators kicking around on the net and see if you still have clearance. If I find the link for the good one I'll post it...

is that the widest tire you can go on a stock SC rim, 225/45-15, or is it smaller?

i am getting new tires for my SC, and wanted to know the widest tires i could get for my 5-lug SC rims without doing any bending of the fenders

i have minivan calipers up front if that makes a difference at all

lmk what the widest tire you can put on a stock SC rim is...

thanks, Justin

I wouldn't suggest putting a 225mm width tire on a SC wheel, which I believe is probably 6" wide. It might give you some more traction in a straight line, but the car will not corner very well. I would suggest a 205 or 215 width tire unless you get some wider wheels.

I used dean's old 225/50/15's and they rubbed the lips on the rear wheelwells, on 6" polished pizza wheels.

I now have 205/40/17, on a 7.5" wide wheels, with 38 mm offset...just for comparison's sake. they do rub up inside the rear wheelwells with 2 people in back seat over big bumps, and I can barely pass a baby inger between the tire and spring perch on the strut in front.

would it make a big difference?

If you go to the tire manufacturer's website they should list specs on what wheel size a particular tire should go on as well as a maximum and minimum width. I would try to stick with the recommended width.

would 15x7, 35mm offset, and 5x100 mounting rims with 225/45-15 wheels fit my SC? Some kid is selling Revolution wheels that he had on his WRX and those are the specs, just wondering if those would fit or not

No, The MAX on a L body without serious modification is 15X7 wheel, 38mm offset and as wide as 225/45-15 tire. As I understand it the 38mm offset is the distance from the rim (Inner) to where the hub attaches. If you went 35mm it woudl basically push the wheel out another 3mm, not a lot, but more than enough to cause you problems with a wide tire. ~~Heath

that's all well and good, except you are overlooking the fact that nobody makes a 45 or 40 series 15 in 245!

so the bigger the offset, the more room to work with basically?

i checked the tires on my rims now, they are 215/55R15 and they look pretty nice, so ill prob just stick with that size, but i wanted something a little wider and lower profile type but not sure what size to get

i thought the subies were like 117 x 5 (or some really weird number) i have 205 50 15s on my sc and they fit just right with no rubbing...i dont think i would try to put the 215 on it though...205s are just about the limit at proper tire pressure for spirited driving IMO
