Has anyone installed a lower ratio rack in their FWD Mopar? I'm looking at getting a 2.0 ratio for my Lebaron. It'll cost me about $100, maybe less through my friend's shop. Opinions?

I'm in the process of installing a rack and pinion in my GLH Turbo. After the GLH is done, I'll be doing my Shelby Lancer. $100 sounds pretty cheap, is that for the parts only? I remember Midas wanted about $800 to do it for me.....no thanks!

I recently bought a remanufactured rack & pinion on eBay (for the GLH). Got it for $72 shipped! It came complete minus the outer tie rod ends. The same seller ('army') also lists racks for other FWD cars, including most TDs. I'm planning on buying one from him for my Shelby Lancer.

Yeah, I replace my '88 ShelbyZ in my garage less than a year ago. It was the first time I've ever done something like that but wasn't too difficult. Took probably no more than 5-6 hours total if I did it all in one sitting. I think the one I bought from Autozone was only $99 after my core was returned.

The one I'm looking at is a reman through ARI. I'm actually not going to be doing the installation, as I have both the car and the "P" body crossmember that the rack will go on at my friend's shop. We have a deal worked out that he's going to convert the car to a five speed from an auto, so the crossmember has to come out anyway. They said that it really didn't matter what I bought; they could make any of them work. I did sort of have to pretend I was a shop owner just to get a crummy catalog, though.
