What size are my GLHS front discs now?
I have 87 & 88 Shelby Z Daytonas. What size are these front and rear?
If I convert the GLHS now using the hardware from the Daytonas then decide later to upgarade to larger rotors from say a 89 Shelby Daytona, will I need to change the knuckles and spindles again or will the rotors and calipers go on with no other mods?
Thanks,
Kurt

If I recal correctly the front GLH rotors are 10", same OD as 89 minivan http://hometown.aol.com/russjerome/i...frontbrake.jpg.

The vented rear Daytona rotors are like 11" http://hometown.aol.com/russjerome/i...ar%20brake.jpg

With Minivan front calipers, 4wdb prop valve and d-150 master it is perfectly balanced system. No need to try knuckel swaps or rotor changes.

get the front brake setup and master cylinder from an early 90's dynasty (10-1/4" rotor, 60mm caliper) and the rear non-vented disc setup and prop valve from an 89+ daytona or lebaron. you will be able to use stock 14 inch rims, and replacement parts (rotors, pads, etc) wont be hard to come by. good luck!!!

any particular year d150? A NEW m/c with resevoir is only $37 from AutoZone, and I have the rear brakes and prop valve from a 89 non-vented ES Tona, not to mention Minivan calipers for my 87 GLHS

Excellent timing, I was just thinking about brake upgrades...

How much of an improvement are people seeing with the (solid) rear disc conversion? Is it a dramatic improvement in stopping distance and feel, or is it just the cool thing to do? Same with the 60mm caliper upgrade.

I have an 85 GLHT, for comparison purposes. I'm trying to do a budget buildup, so I'm debating if this is worth the coinage.

Does anyone have the rear disc setup for sale?

Thanks!

The pedal feel and response is night and day, with the 4wdisc compared to the disc, drum setup. if you drive one with it you will never want your drum brakes back. Shawn

Shawn, what did you do for the e brake again? I'm ready to swap ASAP, as I need to do the brakes anyway, so might as well do them right!

I put rear disk on my SC from a shadow and the E-brake cables hooked right up I cant remember if I used the SC ones or the shadow ones but It is pretty easy to set up. Other than I use the ebrake so much that I already had to replace the shoes. E-brakes are fun but tough on tires.

rear disc only give you 10% extra stopping power (not necessarily decreased stopping distance). the weight of the vented units isn't worth it unless you go w/ the full 11" r/t or 89+ shelby / cs brakes. why go w/ 10-1/4" brakes on the front with 11"s on the back. you can use the d150 m/c, but you have to either refit the lines or use adapters to hook up the lines to the m/c (2 different sizes on the d150 m/c). on a car like an omni, or streetgoing k car or shadow, dynasty front brakes, 24mm m/c and solid rear disc are fine. dynasty brakes are nicer (and newer) than the caravan units. also have regular thickness rotors.

on my 86 k wagon w/ max everything chassis wise:
Spirit R/T front and rear 11" brakes and prop valve
24mm m/c

on my 89 spirit es
dynasty front brakes and 24mm m/c
'90 spirit es solid rear disc and prop valve

the slh upgrade pages are incomplete. they only mention the 11" vented rear disc. no mention of the 11" front brakes (60mm calipers and 11" rotors). i like the dynasty front brakes far better than older caravan units. if anyone wants a pair of caravan front brakes, i have a pair off an 87 or so. also have a 28.5mm m/c. any interested parties....pm me please!

well, since a section of brake line, and fittings to "adapt" the d150 m/c to the prop valve is only like $10 and 10 minutes, I'll take that action

I have a severe dislike for my 220 rear drums I put on my omni. The car doesn't weigh enough to seat the shoes properly. I ended up having to removed the shoes, place them inside the drum and then clearance them with a die grinder to get contact anywhere besides the corners of the shoe. Dumb brakes just suck hehe... Notice no new carmaker uses them unless its their bottom bottom dollar car?
