was wondering if a dynasty rear axle will interchange with the spirit axle without changing the wheelbase. supposedly the dynasty axle has a wider track. figured id grab the one off my old dynasty at the j-yard, weld it shut and slap it on my spirit es. i like having the rear track as wide as the front!

I think the welding it up part is a BAD idea without upgrading the front suspension too. Trust me on this, the car WILL become tail happy, especially during quick transisions. As far as the Dynasty axle fitting under the Spirit...I dunno. I DO know that an A-body rear axle WILL fit under a G-body. Another thing to think about is the axle alignment as far as being on center goes. If the axle is wider, then does the track bar also need to be longer or what to get it centered under the car? You can get an adjustable rear track bar though....just some thoughts(and personal experience)....

according to my books, the dynasty has a 57.6" wide rear track, whereas the spirit is 57.2 in. the front track width is 57.6 on all cars. i like the back to match the front. the same deal with swapping the rear axle from a shelby daytona onto the back of a k car. i have access to the parts (my old dynasty at the j-yard so the parts are pretty much free to me). just wanted to do this on my 89 spirit es.

If you have both i would think you should measure both to really see and get back to us. The track diff might just be wider tires??

The rear axles are different. The real difference isn't the mength of the beam in the middle as much as the thickness of the spindle adapter plates at the ends. I'm using an A-body rear axle on my Daytona and it was about 1/4" shorter between the outer edge of the plates if I remember right(this was almost 2 years ago I did this now...). I don't know or understand why they did this, but it is true...

Hmmm...

The backing plate for rear discs is thicker too isn't it? I never thought about that before!

No, I don't think so, but I didn't measure that...

I don't know why the plates are different for those cars, but they are...and tot he best of my knowledge at this point in time that is where the major difference in their width lies.
