I was just wondering what the best suspension setup for an 86 daytona would be as far as better control and lowering. I want to drop whole car 1 inch or more.

best would be an Eibach prokit, a set of Koni shocks and struts, as well as poly rear axle bushings, Poly sway bar bushings, A rear sway bar and then upgrade your k-frame to an 89+ and get poly bushings for it. Should handle like a slot car after all of that

K frame is the front crossmember that your control arms bolt to. It's just behind the engine, and is held to the car with 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Very easy to swap it out with a later model dual hinged version. Handles better because it keeps the steering geometry more aligned.

scoure the j-yards for any shadow, spirit, dynasty, daytona, etc. most 89+ cars had dual pivot k frames. better still to get the 91 up setup w/ the cast arms - they are heavier duty and don't look like modified early units!

yes, your 89 Shadow should have dual pivots on the kmember.

Derek, do you want best, or just better?

When it comes to suspension you can go from mild to extremely wild with just about any car. Let's look at it in components:

Bushings: Best bet here is to replace every factory black bushing with a polyurethane bushing. Look for quickor or suspension techniques.

Springs: Here you can go from mild Eibach just for lowering and slightly improved handling, to wild custom rate coilovers that can let you adjust ride height as well as finely tune the suspension and weight distribution of the car.

Struts/shocks: Easy as Monroe, good with KYB, Better with Stock Konis, and best with custom double adjustable koni's.

Add Ons: There are many add ons out there for these cars including bigger sway bars, strut tower bars, Panhard bars, camber plates, and even as mentioned full K frame swaps.

It really depends on what you want from your suspension. I woudl expect to spend a minimum of $500 and a maximum.... well. $4000 is a fair number for a cheap race suspension. ~~Heath

No reason to look at Quickor, they filed chapter 7 and will be out of buisness in a couple weeks. Besides they do not have the correct bushings any longer. You'll have to go to http://www.polybushings.com to get those.

I did a k-frame swap on my 1986 and the parts were not to expensive at the u-pull-it yard. BUT if you do not even know what a k-frame is you are going to need to do a lot of reading and get a friend that know more to help you.

IF you just take what you have and add the polyurethane and do other upgrades to what you have it will handle very well!
