While having my 87 Daytona jacked up, I noticed the driver side wheel has about 1/4 inch of play when grasping the wheel and moving it from side to side. I did not have much time to narrow it down as it was getting dark and I had to rap it up for the day. Now l am wondering what causes this and if anyone on here can tell let me know, and what is invoved in fixing it.
Thanks

might be the hub bearing. it might be worn out or the hub nuts just needs to be tightened.

Thats a possibility, will check that first thing tomorrow.

In case that's not the prob, I should have mentioned that the wheel did not have any play when I tried to move it from top to bottom. Also, I noticed that is seemed like everything else connected to the wheel, i.e. strut etc. moved along with the wheel when grasping it from side to side.

Note: the passenger wheel is solid and has no play in any direction.

sounds like an inner or outer tie rod, possible ball joint. if you still have movement side to side when it is on the ground, it is probably the inner tie rod. jacked up, if you push on the left front of the wheel, about 7 or 8 o'clock and it moves, most likely a ball joint, if it seems to move when you hold it on both sides, 9 and 3, probably outer tie rod, also, you can reach around and feel the outer tie rod move when you shake it with the other hand. hope this helps, good luck!

If theres 1/4 inch of play side to side its most likley the tie rod end. Inner or outer. Outers usually where out more often. Look at the inner tie rod end when your moving it. If the inner moves then its the inner that has the play. If the inner doesnt move but you still have the play its most likely a worn outer tie rod end. Put a hand rite on the outer joint and you should feel the play on the joint when you move the wheel side to side.

Dont forget to do an alignment after you put new suspension parts on.
