I got a bit of a project a brewing and had some questions on brakes.
If mini van brakes are the largest how big?
What year would be the best?
I am not sure but didnt they use a 4.5" on 5 pattern?
If they did what would it take to convert?

What is the car you are using? Year makes a big difference because of changes in spindle dimensions and design. Some years have a change in size between hub to ball joint, some had a change in braketry - one piece, two piece. The list goes on.

try some brakes off the front of an early 90's dynasty. has 10-1/4" rotors and 60mm calipers. 2 pin design, thicker (normal size) rotors, parts are newer, etc, etc. i'm using the front brakes and m/c off my 91 dynasty on my 89 spirit es which has the 54mm calipers and 21mm m/c which i think is junk on 2900 lb car. my dynasty could outstop my k car with stock brakes despite 500 extra pounds.

K-platform has nothing to do with it.

All you need to do is swap out the spindles. Since you have spindles with removable brackets, it will be much easier. Just find yourself a junked van with the K-H single pin calipers. Remove the caliper and its bracket. Buy new rotors and pads, and you will be set.

thats the brakes i have on the front of the k car... its nice!

when you said you were using the "standard" k frame... did you mean the L-body specific or the G,H,J,K,AA,P etc, k frame? you cant use a G,H,J,K,AA,P on a L body unless you:

1. cut the car down the middle and add a few inches -or-

2. cut the k frame and take away a few inches... Ive only seen one of the G,H,J,K,AA,P k frames cut and used in a L-body.... it was cut and rewelded... it was AWESOME... used the cast control arms.

i suppose if you are a little crazy, you could just hack and reweld the k frame mounts and relocate the shock towers out and make a widebody set of fenders. you'd have to do that to the back too or it would look stupid. hmmmmmm, that sounds like a fun crazy project.

That does sound awesome now that I think about it.... quite feasable too. The back would be easy. All you would have to do is to extend the backplate of the spindle straight out. A widebody GLH Omni would be killer! Seam weld the entire car, add a few sub frame connectors, 500lb/in springs, and it would be a slot car. Target around 340whp, and it would be insane.

It will have a tube frame and I will drop the body on it. I got a set of van frares that I am going to modify. For a motor I got a 89 t2 motor and a555 out of a daytona,. After its done and tested I am going to put my 16valve hybrid in it from my shadow then it will rip.
Another question is there any other cars with the same bolt patern that have bigger brakes I would like to keep the standard strut setup to save my self money because iM just a starving student and you know how that works.
