Hi guys,

I have an 85 GLHT2. Goes great in a straight line but cornering is bad. As far as I know the struts and springs in the front are stock but still in good condition. The rears shocks are shot. Jumping up and down on the rear bumper I can nearly bottom out the suspension and it bounces a couple times before settling.

Keep in mind this is a daily driver. I think I am going to keep the fronts the way they are for now and upgrade them in the summer. The rears need to be replaced ASAP.

I would like something adjustable so when I go to the drag strip I can stiffen it up nice. I dont want it to be bone jarring as I drive this every day. Is there a happy medium? Would big swaybars/strut bars and a average suspension make for a comfortable driving/good handling car? What combination of struts/springs should I be getting?

Thanks for any help,
Scott

I recently purchased a new set of KONI adjustable shocks and struts this summer with the Eibach adjustable coilover spring package.... I can't wait to put them on, I hear they do wonders. I bring this up though because before I purchased them I was going to send my set of KONI's from an '87 GLHS out to get rebuilt, but I purchased these instead. I am not sure if the 2-door L-body KONI's will work on a 4-door model or not, but if you'd be interested in purchasing them off of me, the set that needs rebuilt is up for sale... PM me if you're interested, but first, can someone verify whether or not 2-door L-body suspension will work on a 4-door or not?

As you will find out, there are very limited options for L-body struts. It's either "all or nothin", in the sense that you can get Gr2's, which are worse then stock GLHT shocks(mushy soft ride), or spend $1000 on coilovers. There really isn't anything in between. Monroe forumla GP's would be great, but they're tough to find now days, as they have stopped making them for an omni. One thing you may want to check into, is using a 1st gen neon strut, I've heard they're very close in dimensions. However, you'd have to upgrade the front end to shadow/daytona knuckles as the width of the leg in which the strut bolts to is different. The shadow/daytona knuckles will bolt right into a 1st gen neon strut.

Maybe I'll just go with *shudders* stock shocks/springs. I need to swap with something that I know works as I cannot afford to have the car down for days while I figure out how to match components. If I can find some good Koni's and Eibachs that would be nice too.

Koni's will take your 60 ft time down by at least .2 seconds

Air shocks will too, but I don't know who makes them for L bodies

The Koni's and Eibachs are awesome. Definently recommended. If you can't find any, at least go with the adjustable KYB's with a slightly lighter spring then the Eibachs. Dont go back to stock.

I would love to have Koni's and Eibachs but is the ride harsh? I went on the KYB site and they dont make the adjustable AGX's for our cars.

I think Koni's and Eibach's are not that harsh, but I am also a crazy nut. I love them.
