I know of one other perons who found a VDS system on a LeBaron in a yard up in Michagan YEARS ago. He put it on a VNT Daytona IIRC that was red. I think this was way back when I was still on the SDML. That means this was 1996-1998(?). Anyways, somebody actually had a relative that worked at the plant the Daytona's and such were built...supposedly about 30 cars escaped withe the VDS...most were 'Barons, not Daytona's(interestingly enough). Also, the Shelby "Birthday Car" has this system IIRC. This info is ALL from memory, but is all I really know. I've not ever seen a system in person, but yes, they DO exist!

Good find BTW. The shocks and struts were suposed to be made by Monroe IIRC...very similar in design to the Nissan 300ZX set-up.

so any chance that its possible to find replacement shocks for this kind of system?

How's the controller work? I assume there had to be some sort of driver circuit somewhere that would be worth having along with the buttons...

If you have the time and it is still there, try to grab the wiring harness for that too.

now, the BIG question: how well did it work? was the system worth it? what kind of cost did the replacement struts carry? and how long would it take them to wear out?

I've heard of corvettes and the like ('high end' cars) having systems like these...

I also found a page saying that it was an option for 1990 lebaron GTC's... Guess I should look closer each time I see a GTC baron huh? I know of several friends and such that had them...

I talked with an older gentleman at Carlisle a few years back and he had a '90 VNT coupe 'Baron. During the discussion he mentioned that he was dissapointed when he got the car because he had ordered it with the VDS and he didn't get it because ChyCo decided not to produce it.

And yeah... I've been around a while

Yea but i can look up parts at home!! And ive never had a problem with being slow, i have cable at home and dsl at work. If it is slow its prolly chryslers server, i think they overloaded themselves. Proquest I dont like, no supersessions, no tech notes, no tsb's etc etc etc

The system worked by using a controller mounted in the rear of the car controlled by the switch on the console. The controller sent out signals to each damper to run a motor that turned a valve inside that varied the fluid bypass. It works OK...kinda like having electrically controlled KONI's. The "firm" setting didn't stay "firm" though, from what my '90 FSM says...it only was that way for a set period of time, then reverted back to "normal".

Price per damper would probably be right around $250-$400 EACH...at least that's what the ones for the 300ZX are. This is the reason ChryCo probably decided to nix it....

Proquest EPC Version 3.2.8.0 does have all of that except the tsb's

The only thing about proquest is the updates are not a quick as starparts.
At home I just use e-fiche or go into the service side of Dealer connect.

ah. I get it.

I've heard of some systems using variable density damping fluid that is charged, and a magnetic field is used to change the fluid characteristics... Problem is the high price tag (much higher than $250-400).

Seems like a neat idea, but a good stepper motor system and the right controller, and you could build you OWN set using koni's lol. No need to stop the car or get under it anymore, lol.
