Car is a 89 Daytona Shelby. The outter housing of my front passenger side's brake hose is crack and it needs to be changed. Problem is, where the metal line connects to the rubber lines, there is a copper nut screw onto the connector of the rubber hose. The copper nut is 10mm, i looked at it, studied it, put a 10 mm open end wrench on it, turn it a little and decided against going any further, because i know i'll strip it if i apply any more power to it. I even used PB blaster before I tried taking if off.

So, my question is, is there a special tool or trick that I need to get/know to change my brake hoses?

Thanks.

Flare nut wrenches work very well with removing brake lines, that should help prevent rounding the nut.

yup flared wrench will work perfect, BUT be very careful I just did this on my charger, you might think the nut is loosening but really the line itself is twisting! Don't do what I did and let this happen or you will be replacing the entire hard line. What I did on the other side was heat up the nut with a propane torch until it was cherry red, then loosen the nut while it's still hot, worked perfectly just be careful you're not twisting the line while loosening.

I don't have a propane torch, but I got a old-school solder gun, think that'll work?

Instead of turning the fitting (nut), unbolt the hose from the body, then hold the nut still while turning the whole hose. That way there's no chance of twisting the line.

I put heat on a break hose and the SOB exploded! Of course it was easy to get a socket on the fitting after that. I don't recommend heating! lametec seems to have the right idea.
