86 turbo 1 daytona. i had the same problem everyone has had with the voltage regulator. mine of course is in the pm. i tried two different pm's and it seems both regulators in them are bad. so... i tried to hook up an external and its being a pita. i hooked it just as it says on the posts on here and still no charging. i checked all the wires and nothing. my question. if i went out and bought a new(rebuilt) pm for it from advance auto ( they are 75.00 i think) does anyone think this will fix the problem? i think ithe problem is the regulator from everything ive read on mini mopar and its a new alternator. the only other thing i can possibly do is put an alternator from an 85 turbo 1 on it. it has an external regulator on the alternator. the wire harness is a bit different but all the wires go to the same place.

thanks

So either way, your car is not charging? First off, put everything back to stock. Take the alternator into the parts store and have it tested. It's not unheard of for rebuilt alternators to be bad right out of the box. Might as well do the battery as well while you're at it. If/when they test good, physically inspect the wiring from the alternator harness all the way to the cluster of wiring under the battery tray. Look for any corrosion, frayed wires, or broken connections. Key points will be the ground attachement on the alternator itself, the ground cable usually bolted to the cylinder head, the white bullet connector off of the negative battery cable, and I believe two or three black wires bolted directly to the frame rail under the battery tray. Also check all fusible links and make sure your battery connections are good. IF all else fails, I have a known good PM we could make a deal for. If you have any questions, let me know, I've had this problem a few times.
