Does the high mounted brake light (3rd brake light) work? If so its not the brake light switch. You didn't say what model and year your working on. If it DOESN'T have yellow turn signals in the rear the brake light switch feeds the turn signal switch and the turn signal switch then sends it on back to the lights.

start at the brake light switch. Does it use yellow turn signals in the rear or red ones?
