Chime in here if you've ever used an 89 van harness in a car with a 40way bulkhead

Just want to know who I can bounce questions off of. I'll post them as they come.

First one: What exactly is 'Van Conversion' for. It's terminal 3 on the van harness bulkhead

Thanks!

Question 2: What is the 'Power Loss' line for in the bulkhead connector? It's #38.

Damon, van conversion is a power source for conversion vans it goes to a pigtail inside the van. The "power loss" is the lead to the power loss lamp. Kid Doc and a couple of others have gone from a van harness to a 40 way on L bodies. I rewired my dash harness by getting one from a 1987 LeBaron 4 dr. the only issue was the digital dash. Chrysler changed the pinouts on the blue connector and they are not compatible. I have two blue connectors now in my harness, one for the 85 dash and one for the 87 dash. Since you are using the SMEC, you might have a real PITA getting the power loss and brake sense leads.

I've never done it on a SMEC, but I did a 90 SBEC van to 90 AA body and it really wasn't too hard.

A couple wires on the engine/body harness plug had to be switched, but it wasn't too bad.

Yeah, if you're using newer wiring, it's not so bad. The whole transition from 2 computers to 1 computer and from 40 wire bulkhead up to 50 are the real killers.

But, it's still not so bad. I think my problem is that i have had it apart for so long that I've forgotten the dealy-o.

Chime... I did it.. Originally cut the 50 pin connector off, one wire at a time and spliced on a 40 pin connector. Solder/heatshrinking everything one wire at a time. Tons of left over wires from the van harness that the L body didn't need. Was intended for an '85 SC when I did the conversion. About a year or so later, I didn't have that '85 SC anymore, but needed one for my '83.. Re-arranged a pin or two and it was good to go in my '83 SC.. Swapped the power loss with the oil warning light wire so I'd have a check engine light on the dash.. hahaha.. What year and what car are you putting this harness into?
