my 89 caravan had cruise at one time but then one day it just stopped working. any ideas on what might have caused it? i dont think i played with any wires or anything, as far as i can tell, it just quit. what the crap?

check the vac line going to it, make sure it is good if it is and the cable is still hooked up, replace the cruise control servo, round thing with the cable under the battery

Does the caravan have a mechanical speedo? If so, it may just be the speed/distance sensor.

Yeah I had a similar problem after I washed my engine this summer. I disconnected the speed sensor and wiped out the socket to make sure there wasn't water sitting in there.

It didn't start working right away but after a couple days for +39c weather it magically started working again and has since.

Check the one way vac valve to the vacuum unit, they can and do blow out. Also, check your SDD, mine kept working, not working so one day cruise, next day gone. If you have access to a scanner, you can check the switch on the column with it.
