i put a jensen dvd player head unit in my 93 stealth r/t. i got it all hooked up and powered up and everything, but i ran into a problem. i relized that the factory head unit doesnt have a ground wire, and that it just grounds it self through the metal brackets. well anyway, i took the ground wire from the unit and attached it to a a bolt and then put a screw on it, back inside the dash somewhere. but when i turn up the volume the screen flickers with the bass thump, also the overhead lights sort of dimmed too. and it doesnt seem to get as loud as the original factory head unit either. is this ground problem or somthing else?

my stereo does the same thing at idle or engine off... higher output from the alternator keeps this from happening as much, its called voltage depression and is the drop in voltage under a heavy load which causes a decrease in current too...

when the blinkers 'blink' its gonna pull power from the battery and alt, the draw wont be REAL high, but with a less than perfect battery and charging system it'll pull the power down momentarily, especially with an old 'flasher' as well - the newer solid state ones dont draw as much and last forever without an increase in load over the years...

do you also have subs? cause when that amp turns on it will suck alot of power or does the head unit have a bulit in amp? that uses alot of power try getig a high output alternator that should solve all your poblems and also make sure all where you made all your ground conections the paint was sanded off the metal.
