also, got me thinking, when i put my head unit in a couple months ago, i noticed that my two tweeters dont work. is this because the head unit only sends a signal to four speakers? and if im not mistaken, before i ever put in the head unit, i noticed that the tweeters were unplugged think. did my car not come with an option to use them or somthing?

The amp is part of each speaker. Basically each speaker has its own amp.

oh so theres no actual amp somewhere. i knew that each speaker was pre amped, but i also thought there was another smaller amp somewhere behind the dash. also, anyone have any ideas about the tweeters?

If it is wired like the minvan infinitys, the front door speakers and the tweeters are in parallel, with the rear ones on their own circuit. I can look tonight in my 88 FSM and tell you for certain. When you replaced the head, did you hook up the control lead for the infinty amp relay? You should be able to hear the relay click on when you first turn the head on (you need to have the volume down to hear it) if not, then you will need to use either the power antenna signal wire or the amplifier power lead from the head to control it.

yea i think i found the amp, but not 100% sure. is it located right underneath where my head unit would be. when i have the radio out and in my hand, and turn it on, i can feel the "click" of the amp right underneath. is that where it is, so i can take it out and see if i can solve my tweeter problem.

What you are hearing "click" is the relay for the "Name Brand Speakers", according to the FSM, your car should be an H body 4dr hatchback and the Infinity system has amplified speakers. If you want can scan the pages with the radio information and email it to you. The dashboard "tweeters" are wired in parallel with the front door speakers and should work with them. If you do away with the Infinity system, you can pull the relay out and disable the power feed from it that way. I actaully like my i Infinity in the Minivan, it has great sound. It won't rattle the doors like an overamplified Honda though.

yes, the only amps are on the speakers themselves. The "tweeters" you are talking about are actually 3.5in speakers. They are wired to the front doors and it they are there...and not blown....they should play out when the others do. The problem might be to much high level output from you new deck. It might be over powering the amps and the 3.5s are cutting out to prevent damage. However if that was the case I doubt anything would work. Go in behind the front speakers and cut the wires...leave the GREEN AND BLACK uncut. This should in effect disable the amp but the speaker SHOULD play though fine...leave yourself enough to solder them back if need be. I have played with this stuff a lot. I work in Circuit City roadshop now after 5 summers at a Chrysler dealership.

ok. just one more question. before i ever put in the new head unit, i was screwing around and noticed that the two front dash speakers were not plugged in for some reason. the wire harness for each of them, was taped underneath on the side of each. now i kno no one was screwing around with it before me, because my grandma was the origanal owner and i doubt she would touch those. and i looked in the records, and saw no records of radio work of any kind. so is my car not set up to use those two front speakers or something, which doesnt make any sense to me. if so, how would i hook up the dash speakers with the front door speakers. thanks.

Maybe you should avoid cutting that wire I mention earlier...it might actually cause the signal to not get past the amp. Anyways. I had a 1991 Chrysler lebaron that had no front dash speakers. In the holes was a cardboard cover with the wire taped to the back. I remove the wire, pluged it into some Infinity Kappa 3.5in speakers and they worked fine. If you run high power to 3.5in speakers you are going to wish you never had them anyway...they are so loud they hurt your ears. They are no longer a popular speaker because they are almost always harsh...especially at high volumes and powers. I would instead get a good set of 5 1/4in compontent speakers and mount the tweeters in the holes where the 3.5s where. That would be the best sound with the least hassel. If you still want to use 3.5 speakers just run your own wire down the side (or thought the dash) and connect it to the speaker harness that goes out into the door inside the kick panels.

BTW when you do your new speakers, all the wiring around the car is the same color. Positive is green, neg is black. Leave the other two alone, they are amp power and turn on signal.

so with the new speakers, ill only need the two wires, because they wont have amps on them.
