ever since i got my car back from the paint shop the gas meter drops of to way below empty, then when i stop the car go into the store and come back out, and turn on the car the gas meter goes back to normal what is the deal?

check your connections at the sending unit. If there's no obvious disconnection, try moving the wires around by hand to see if the gauge moves around. You could also use a voltmeter to measure resistance to ground. I beleive there should be one 12 volt wire, a ground wire and a return wire from the tank that goes to your gauge. You need only concern yourself with the ground and return line. It's a pretty simple system so something must be loose or disconnected. That's my only thought.

body shops are great for taking off wires and not hooking them back up (usually ground wires). Look in areas they had to remove things to paint your car for hanging wires.
