i put a system in my 93 duster a few months ago. (300watt amp, 12" sub, old pioneer head unit, new door speakers)...

rigth now i only have the sub wired into the amp. if i put the speaker wires into it, would it improve sound quality over the speakers being plugged into the head unit? right now it sounds decent, but its not where i'd like it to be.

thanks,
'Jim

Do you have unused channels on that amp? If you hook your door speakers into the sub amp, you'll either have no treble, or have tons of treble coming out your sub. Unless it's like a 4 channel amp or better, then you can do half and half on one amp.. And generally, you only get a modest audio quality improvement moving to an external amp. It does increase volume level before distortion tho. What really improves audio quality are the more expensive decks. If you can't afford one, buy a used older model on Ebay.. Like 3 or 4 years back, try to buy that year's "best" model. The audio quality on the top model (often called the 9 series) is far above the base couple of models. They also tend to have more features.

I'd say no way. Especially without knowing anything about the amp or how it's hooked up.

You can run a sub on a 2 channel setup . It's not the greatest , but will sound better than just amping the sub . Hook up left & right as normal , and then hook the sub up to (L+) & (R-) , or vice versa , if your amp is labeled to bridge the other way . It's sort of a quasi-three channel . Sorta ghetto , but will sound better than the way it is now .

Like I said.. Without a passive crossover, he'll get tons of treble out the sub that way.. And usually not much bass without seriously cranking the rest of the system.. It's a really poor option.

Like I said "sorta ghetto" , but it WILL sound better than just amping the sub , up to the point the amp distorts . You can't crank it , but it will sound much better , and fuller "moderately" loud . Moderately being relative to the quality of the amp .

i obviously dont know much about systems... but i think mine is bridged that way... i believe its the negative right to positive left.
im thinking its just having a bad head unit. base and treble from the sub are fine, but overall sound quality of the whole system is just lacking something.

I'd still like to know what kind of amp you have..."300 watt" really means nothing as that's probably a "max" rating and the actual output is around half of that. Same goes for the sub, what are the brand/specs on it? If you want to keep what you have now and still improve on it, I would buy a mono sub amp for the sub and use the 2 channel you have now on the new front speakers. Let the head unit power the stock rears. I've ran multiple amps before and it's not a big deal.

You say bass and treble from the sub are fine...there's a problem with that. Subs should only play low frequencies, if your amp has a low pass filter turn it on...if it doesn't then you should really get another amp. That's killing your sound quality right there.
