89 Daytona Shelby. Bought car with lights stuck in up position, seller said that they were "intermittent". Well, i use lights on the way home with car, and when i turn em off, they went down. They had worked ever since. Until yesterday, they were stuck in down position, and i couldnt get em up for 3 days. Eventually i just disconnected light motor connections and raised em up with jumpers. So...anyone have any thoughts? what is the "headlight controller" in the wiring diagrams? Thnk u much guys, i think ill start by checkin the grounds. Thnx again

in most cases its the motor that usually goes, but if you can raise them using jumpers, then your going to have to trace it to the source, most likely its a ground if its interminent. is you have a fsm that will help alot.

I had the same problem twice. With the 88 gtc it was the headlight switch.

With the 92, who knows what is wrong. But what I did was to use the power feed to the lights as a power-on leads to solenoids that feed 12v directly to the bulbs from the battery. This fixed it for me.

I think there is a module in the center of the top of dash that handles the open-close of the headlights.

on 89 tona's the trim piece that runs along the top of the dash has to come off. you can also access your dash speakers too! anyway, the black module in the middle of the dash is your headlight motor relay box thinggy. from what i hear those tend to go bad. mine work intermittentaly on occaision. i just manually put them up with them connected and one day i'll turn off the lights and they'll work...

Yeah, when i was troubleshootin, i took the switch out and everythin seemed to be workin fine. The first tug prduced the standard drivin lights and dash illums but the 2nd pull didnt seem to change anythin. Then, i realized that the headlights were infact lit just the motor didnt initiate the raise sequence.

The black trim piece under the hood between the nose and the upper rad support has two flaps on it. One on each side. Lift it up and there will either be rubber caps or knobs (under the caps) turn the knobs and the headlights will raise mechanically. Mine don't go up usually once each summer. I manually raise them and then the next morning when I turn on my lights I'll hear them click. Then they'll work fine for another year or so. There's 2 boxes under the dash that control the lights. I had the main box where the center speaker plugged in only over the last couple weeks since my dash was out of the car but until I plugged in a 2nd box farther under the dash they wouldn't work.
