Lawn mower battery?

I've heard of Omni guys running a lawn mower battery from Walmart(about $20 IIRC) as opposed to a normal auto battery for a ton of saved weight and so it is easier to relocate on the passenger side...

I'm interested in eliminating things to make stuff nicer under hood and all, but would this work for a daily driver kind of car? I don't have any huge amps or subs or anything, I'm content with decent rear speakers and a new head unit at the most.

I'm sure if you leave your lights on you'll kill the battery quickly and leaving the key in the "accessory" position with the music on for long will be out of the question, but will it be sufficient to start, run, and operate the lights, radio, wipers, horn, etc without high potential failure?

I have a daytona and I relocated my battery to the right front and I used a battery for a tempo as it was low in height works great.

I've been using the tractor battery for over 7 years now. I replaced the 1st one after 5 years because I had a draw from the horn relay but thought it was the batttery. Otherwise I'd still be on the original one.

I ran the lawn mower battery for a couple years on the street in my '88 Z. Never had an issue with it.

Obviously not for a 2.3L '94 Tempo, just been messing with one, it's full size.

Can I ask why you don't have it on there now?

with our cars engines it probably wouldnt be a problem. but when you get into larger size engines and using a lawn mower battery, then you start running into electrical issues.

I am thinking about switching my red top Optima for a Odyssey Pc680 it is commonly used for Evo VIII and IX small battery kits. Your saving about 20 to 25 pounds and as long as you drive you car every couple of weeks they work great even in cold Michigan winters.

Do you guys think the lawn mower battery is enough to keep my 360 started and running? No radio in it and it a carb.

There's the question I wanted to know the answer too. The best tractor battery I could find had like 360 CCA and like 500 CA. But the 300 CCA/420 CA battery was considerable less weight, would it be enough to turn over the engine?
