Ok so the car runs a drives like a charm. Brand new battery. So here are my problems. Maybe some of you oldtimers or wise ones can help. On the cluster my SPEDO, GAS GAUGE, TACH, TRIP DONT work. BUT my VOLT, and TEMP do? Any help. And what about the TRAVELER THING, I cant even get it to do anything? Oh and my left front speaker fades in and out. And the left rear doesnt even work. Suggestions appreciated.

What kind of car as far as dash problems? Analog Cluster?
As far as the speakers.Remove the speaker that is not working, connect 2 jumpers, one from battery + to a speaker term and the other to battery - and tap the other speaker terminal with that jumper. If the speaker "Pops" the speaker is good. Also be sure the terminals on the speaker and connector are clean and free of corrosion.
To test the radio output and wiring remove the speaker wire connector and connect your digital multi-meter set on A/C voltage to the connector, move the fader to that speaker position and as volume is increased A/C voltage will increase. If voltage is not present or does not change check continuity of the speaker wires to the radio,if wiring checks ok the problem is in the radio.
On your speaker that is fading in and out if the voltage is varying by itself the problem is radio/wiring related,if it is not it is the speaker.

On the cluster you may have 2 seperate problems, the speedo and fuel guage do not appear to have anything in common, although they may share a common ground on the circuit board. You will have to run seperate diagnostics for the 2 systems.
Fuel Gauge, with the key on ground the DB wire at the sending unit,if the gauge reads full the gauge and sender input wire are good, check the ground wire which is external and grounds at the rear of the vehicle,if the ground is ok replace the sending unit.
If the gauge does not read full remove the cluster and check continuity from the DB wire at the sending unit to the cluster R/S conn. Term F DB wire.If there is no continuity repair the DB wire for an open.
If there is continuity with the key on check for battery voltage across the ignition pin and ground pin of the gauge,if battery voltage does not exist then connect your voltmeter to a known good ground and recheck for Batt voltage,if ok repair the ground side of the gauge on the circuit board,if 12 volts are present across the terminals then replace the guage.
Speedometer, First check to see if there is a VSS code in memory. If there is a code check the wiring at the speed sensor for damage and check continuity of the VSS signal line from the sensor to the cluster L/S conn Term A WT/OR wire and to the controller 60 pin connector cavity #48.If continuity is good replace the VSS.If there is no continuity repair the WT/OR wire for an open.
If there is no code in memory you still have to check the WT/OR wire for continuity, the wire splits and runs to the controller and instument cluster. If there is no continuity repair the WT/OR wire for an open.If there is continuity with a voltmeter test with the key on for battery voltage across the B+ and ground pins of the speedometer. If voltage is not present connect your voltmeter to a known good ground and test for Batt voltage,if voltage is now good repair the ground side in the cluster board. If 12 volts are present replace the speedometer.
If you find that both problems are related to the ground side on the cluster circuit board you may have a cracked solder joint, reflow the solder joints on the board and retest.
