since i will be using a later style trans in my 88 shadow, there won't be a place to hook up the cable driven speedo. could i possibly use a later shadow cluster(or install a digital dash like i've been wanting to) and wire the speedo to the vehicle speed sensor? or are there any other solutions?

use the older style speed sensor, then you still have the cable and(assuming) original cluster

now that you said this, i think i just asked a dumb question! for some reason, i "assumed" that on the shadow trans there was seperate speedo gear and speed sensor gear. now after your statement, i guess there all one unit(which makes perfect sense). instead of jumping to conclusions, i should have just got under it and looked!

Nah, I like when I can post somewhere to help. That and now if it wasn't somewhere on the board before it is now for future members who may have the exact question.
