Well, my problem continues guys and gals. STILL cannot get my daytona to crank from the key. Finally broke down and decided to just rig the car with a pushbutton start. Well, wired it in as I did before, and now the car won't even crank. I did mess with the wires some more, and got the car to click when I hit the key, but the starter still won't hit. I know it's not the starter, because like I said, it will start if I jump it from the relay. Does anyone have a good, clear picture of their batter terminals? With all the wires coming from the positive and negative? Better yet, can anyone get pictures of the starter relays and stuff? I need a pic of all the wires, so I can see what goes where. It's a rat's nest there, and my only solution would be to find a car with the terminal intact, hack them off as far back as I can go, and splice it into my car's harness. But if I'm going that far, I'm going to wait until I conver the car over to a T2 engine and computer. But for now, I need the car to run, so anyone, PLEASE HELP ME

Ok I see you have a couple of threads on this and its still a problem. When you say you jump it at the relay and it will crank are you jumping the red wire to the brown wire or are you jumping the brown wire to the battery? If you are jumping to the battery you need to check the red wire for having power on it. There should be 12v+ on that wire at all times from looking at the diagrams it goes to a big a$$ connection with about 8 other wires. It doesn't say it but I would guess its the fuse links connection. If you are jumping the brown wire to the red wire we need to look at the other 2 wires. Post back the answer to the above question and we'll go from there. I forget do you have an auto trans or manual?

I jump it from the brown wire to the red I think. It's an 84, manual trans, and the switch is connected. Before though it would start without the clutch and in gear.

Ok make sure that is how you are jumping it. If it isn't the following info I write might be wrong and not help shole the problem. If you are jumping from the brown to the red wire this info will help figure out what is wrong.

The 2 wires we already checked are the power feed to the relay and the power out from the relay to the starter.

The last 2 wires on the relay control the relay. The diagram is a little tough to read the colors but it looks like one is yellow and the other is brown with a yellow tracer. There isn't enough diagram to figure out which one goes where but that is not a problem. In order for the relay to work it needs a 12v+ and a 12v-. disconnect the relay from the base and take a test light and hook the clip to the POSITIVE terminal on the battery. Since you car is a manual trans without clutch pedal switch the 12v- should always be present at the relay. with the test light hooked to the positive terminal the light will light when a 12v- is touched by the tip. Now touch each of the last 2 terminals one at a time to see if the light lights. One of them should light it. If it does not there is an open wire from ground to the relay.

Now move the test light clip to the NEGITIVE terminal of the battery. Now the light will light when a 12v+ it touched by the tip of the test light. Have a helper hold the ignition key in the crank position and touch both terminals again one at a time. If you found the one that lights with the test light hooked up like in the last paragragh it should now light on the other wire. If none of the wires get the light to light you have an open wire to the ignition switch or possibly a bad ignition switch or an internal problem with the column or a misadjusted ignition switch.

If you found both of these tests as good the relay is bad. remember when you do these tests the same wire can not be the wire for both tests. one must pass for the first test and the other must pass for the second test.
Hope this helps
Tim
