I just ordered one of those U-build-it kits from Jaycar for the air/fuel monitor for my '89 Shadow 2.2L. I hooked it up on the stock sensor, and it seems to work, but will bounce all over the spectrum when it should be setlled in the "ideal" range. I bought another stock narrowband sensor from the dealer(yeah....got ripped, but only aftermarket I could find locally was Bosche), and same stuff. A bud suggested a wideband for this application, as I have the feed for the A/F signal input tapped to the O2 signal wire at the SMEC per the directions of the meter. Is there a good online source for a wideband O2 that won't try to sell me the whole darn gauge kit? I just need the 4-wire wideband O2, not the whole kit.

This is a common used wideband, it for VW's but innovate and others use it as well. You can normally get them cheap at the local VW dealer also.

is the gauge a Narrowband gauge or a wideband gauge? Narrowband gauges hooked up to a narrowband O2 sensor will bounce pretty good.

It's actually for both sensors. It has a calibration resistor for calibrating it to your O2 sensor. It's based on the LM3914 LED dot/bar driver chip, using the 0-1V off the sensor to fire the output. Go to Car Electronics, Compass, MTX, Avh P5700dvd, Automobile Compass, RV Appliance, Pioneer Avh P5700dvd, Automotive Electronics, Car Electronic, Auto Electronics, Electronic Compass, Cheap Car Electronics, Buy Police Scanner, Pioneer Avh P7500dvd, Avh P7 and look for kit KC5195.

I was thinking with the wideband sensor I could get it to settle down a bit, but so far, it seems to work as advertised.

Narrowband O2's operate on a 0-1volt scale just like your gauge from the sound of it. Wideband's operate on a 0-5volt scale
