I drive a 1991 Daytona 3.0L base model, and it's gone elecrazy

Occasionally when I start up my car (9 out of 10 times I start it up this will happen) my windshield wipers will cycle one time through, regardless of the switch being in the off position. I check continuity across the appropriate pins via Alldata, and the switch is working properly. I'm suspecting a bad body computer, other symptoms follow.

In addition to the wiper weirdness, the seat belt warning lamp will not come on if the seat belt is disengaged and the vehicle is running. I tested the seat belt switch to ensure that it was working properly, and it is. The ground circuit is fine, and there is power going to the seat belt switch so I know all that is good. When the car is first started though the seat belt light will come on for the 6 1/2 seconds it's supposed to,

The Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) operates the same way it has in previous years with the exception of three functions operated by the body controller. These functions are:

* Seat Belt Warning Lamp: The body controller turns on the seat belt warning lamp for 6+1-2 seconds when the ignition is turned on.
* Low Fuel Warning Lamp: The body controller turns on the low fuel lamp when the fuel tank is at 2.773 gallons including tank reserve.
* Check Gages Lamp: The body controller turns on the "CHECK GAGES" lamp when the engine controller issues a high temperature warning and/or a charging system failure via the CCD bus system.

To top off the icing on the cake, occasionally the driver's side lock and unlock switch will not work, but you can hear the clicking of the relay. If I hit the passenger's side lock / unlock once, the driver's side will start working.

If anyone has any information or possible tests to run in addition, I'm all for it. It might prevent me from doing this

One more thing: Would it be wise to hook up a BCM from a 1993 2.5L Daytona to test out the functions? My guess is absolutely not, but unsure and don't want to throw parts at it

The only suggestion I have would be to get a hold of a Chrysler DRB and check for BCM fault codes.
I do not know if aftermarket scanners will access the BCM.

A snap on scanner will access the BCM.
My 94 lebaron does the wiper thing. I haven't messed with it to check but make sure your battery is in good shape the reason I say that is the mini vans are known to have the rear wiper wipe while cranking on a low battery or old battery. My 92 mini wipes when ever the battery is low. It started when the battery got to 6 years old and stopped when I finally replaced it.

Thanks for the replies, both of you.

Currently in the process of charging the reserve battery to test out the low voltage possibility (seems high, as we had an alternator test done on a 1yr old alternator and it had excessive AC ripple, doh). The battery was stated at needing a recharge, but it might be so far as to the point where I have to take it off and trickle charge it for a day or two.

And the seat belt... still knockin my head

Wish me luck!

Really? Nice to have another TDer from South Jersey.
I am in Lindenwold on the Clementon side, work right down the street from you at Lenihan Jeep.

When I was at Fort Dix for basic, I thought the name had been changed to
"Joysee". Makes me think of Joe Piscopoe on SNL- "You from Joysee, I'm from Joysee?" Just kidding guys. You should hear the dialect in some of the Tenn. backwoods areas. Talk about your run-on sentences !

So I did another test. The circuit involving the seatbelt to the body computer is working fine. I get voltage and it appears / disappears as it should when the buckle is in / out.

But when I checked the voltage from the body computer to the instrument panel, I got 0.6 volts for the first 6 and a half seconds or so and then nothing. No matter if the buckle was in or out, I never got any voltage after that first six seconds.

Which makes me almost absolutely certain it's the body computer
