Here is the deal....

Tonight my wife and I were getting gas so of course i shut the van down and my radio and radar detector shut off, came back on, and the radio shut off but my radar detector stayed on like it should. After getting the gas I went to turn the ignition over when the van wouldn't start, instead it made two clicks, I tried again, and of course two clicks, third time and the gauges all went haywire and the van started right up.

Question is what is causing this to happen?

We came up with 3 scenarios:

1. The van does not have an actual ignition switch, I use a copper tube to turn it on. We think the copper tube is grounding out ( but we have been using this method for four months now).

2. The starter relay is starting or has gone out

3. The starter silinoid(sp), actually the whole starter (which has never been replaced since I have owned it (four months).

Parts that have been replaced:

Head gasket and up
Ignition coil
Spark plugs
Wires
Crankshaft sensor
Oil pressure sensor
passenger side axle and outer transmission seal
Front pads
Struts
Outer Tie rods
Ball joints
Shocks
Passenger rear bearings
Drum shoes
Wheel cylinders on both sides
Drum hardware

Accessories:
New Radio
Amp
Sub
Rear 6x9's
LED interior accent lights
radar detector

Again I was just wondering if anyone here may know what might be causing this rare situation to happen, as it has only happened this one time?

Thanks For your help,

Kevin

well the volt gauge stays well above the half mark where it should be, but i never changed the alt in it either.... Just another thing that will have to be checked.

P.S. as soon as our federal return comes back we will be getting a new ignition switch, lol.
