After driving a 2004 EVO VIII for awhile and being a part of the EVO tuning scene I decided to follow suit and save some weight on my Daytona. When I originally assembled my car I used a red top Optima battery and now I have decided to save some weight and change to a Deka battery.

This is the original red top Optima setup.

I picked up a Deka ETX14 battery from Tri State Battery Online Catalog and I picked up an aluminum battery tray to modify from Schimmel Performance Auto Parts.

I had to modify the battery tray to be bolt in as well as fit my existing setup. This tray is designed to fit the bigger and heavier ETX20L battery but with a little work the ETX14 fits just fine. Here is what is looks like after modifcation and temporary installation I am going to do some painting and polishing before final install.

Any questions feel free to ask and any input greatly appreciated.

Looks like a nice mod. How about moving it to the passenger side under the fender where the charcoal can is? Can that thing really start the car in sub zero temps?

Moving it was never really an idea for me the extra wiring was something I did not want to add to my car. My car is only used during the warm months here in Michigan if I were to drive it all year round I would just keep using the red top Optima. These type of batteries have little reserve and low cca but they work awesome at starting a low compression 8-valve turbo motor in fair weather.

I finally got around to doing some painting and polishing on my semi-custom battery and all in all I think it turned out pretty good. It is not perfect but neither is my car now I just have to order up another battery as the one I have has made a permanent home in my riding lawn mower. Check it out and tell me what you think the nice part is it is bolt in like a OEM battery.
