The odometer in my 87 Lebaron Coupe(with digital dash), has an asterisk by the odometer. I think the digital dash display went bad once, and when it was replaced, the tech said the asterisk was from having to change the mileage on the new one so it was correct to the car(or something like that). Is there something I can do to get rid of the asterisk?

I used to think of that as a congratulatory star that my car made it past 200,000! lol! but no seriously thats what the star stands for: 199,999 + what ever mileage you have now.

oh, and unless you had a $6000 programming tool, or know someone who does, not much can be done.

Since the car has 146,000(and the car has been in my family since new), I know it's not because of the 200,000. It means the odometer has been tampered with or (I guess) it is beyond it's physical limit(of 200,000) miles.

Thanks for the re-programming tip. It's not worth $6K to me to buy a machine to fix it.

I read one of those PROMs on a cheap Willem (like) programmer once. I've probably still got the bin file somewhere. I didn't change anything though.

The "replacement" cluster will have had a different mileage reading, as it is stored in the cluster, rather than in a computer elsewhere in the car. that's where there would be a difference in the mileage.

I had the same on my 83 EFI Imperial, I recall it had something to do with the display being changed, but could also be triggered by other factors. If you are really concerned about it, someone over at imperialclub.com might be able to help with it, but I don't think there is much you can do about it, at least not easily.
