Can anyone give me the basics for removing a AM/FM Cassette Player from my '88 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible? Do I have to remove the center console from around the automatic transmission shifter? Also, will a AM/FM Cassette/CD unit from a later model Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth work in this application?

There are 4 Phillips head screws that hold in the trim around the radio. Once you have those out just 2 10mm bolts for the radio itself.

A later model will work as long as the tabs are the same.

I know it might be a bit late now... you don't need to remove the console at all, just pull on the woodgrain panel that surrounds the radio, heat/ac controls, and cupholders. It's held in by 4 spring clips, it should pop right out. Then there are 2 screws to take out holding in the plastic cover on the passenger's side... you could just leave it on but it'll be more difficult to get your radio in and out.
