As I'm sure we all are, I'm trying to reduce clutter in the engine bay an increase the visual appearence of the car. I've gotten 3/4 solenoids eliminated under the hood.

- egr (turbo 2)
- wastegate (grainger)
- charcoal cannister (eliminated)

I still have the lonely barometric solenoid. As far as I can see this valve is the only thing between the manifold and the map sensor.

What is the purpose of this solenoid? Is there anything I can substitute it with so I can pull the piece out of the engine bay?

Baro Solenoid is used by the controller to update barometric pressure during driving conditions on turbo vehicles so the fuel control and timing will be correct.
While cruising at steady, no load conditions the controller will block vacuum to the map sensor and bleed any trapped vacuum in the lines. At this point the map will be at rest or key on/ engine off position, the controller will update barometric pressure and then allow vacuum back thru.
The baro solenoid is needed for proper operation on a turbo vehicle.
