Installing T2 harness in N/A omni

I'm working on jumping back into the TD game. I'm looking at a couple of Omni's.

One is a very nice 5-speed Omni but its N/A. If I were to pick up a Shelby Z T2 or something similar just how overwhelming would it be to install the entire wire harness in the Omni in order to install a blowthrough setup?

To go from a carb. omni to a turbo omni I assume I will need every single wire harness from under hood, under dash, and all the way to the gas tank.

As a professional electrician I feel confident that armed with the proper wiring diagrams, I could probably make this work if it is possible. I imagine the harnesses may be too long in some areas, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Ideas from those who have converted their NA vehicles? Comments from L-body owners?

Thanks.

87OmniT2 did it with his and I have pointed him to this thread. It is not impossible but it was very time consuming. You will aslo need a gas tank. I think he had problems putting a fuel pump in the original tank.

Yes, I did this to my Omni. I took a motor from a CSX and did the transplant. I must have been nuts, because i had a time deadline of 1 week to complete the swap. I put in 12 hour days for six days straight to get it running. The fuel pump can be fit into the stock carb tank, but the sender has to be modified. I think I remember welding a return line into the sender (cant quite remember the specifics). You have to get creative. You will have to get the right axles for the car depending on the tranny you use. Look at the transaxle section on thedodgegarage for more info. You may also have to weld a bracket on for a bobble strut depending on your tranny choice. The biggest PITA is the wiring. EVERY wire has to be transplanted from car to car. Most of my dash still does not work. Mostly because I have not taken the time to complete it yet. My speedo works and Ive got an aftermarket tach and other key gauges, so I havent really had the ambition to finish the dash. But the essentials were a pain....horn, wipers, heater, etc... Its a lot of probing around and looking at diagrams, splicing and cutting. Its doable, but a pain. Like I said, Ive had about 60-70 hours in just doing the basic swap.

Here's my car. Orinally a regular carb'd Omni:

I guess it depends on what year you have. My 87 Horizon swap was pretty straightforward. I used an 85 GLH-T engine harness. It plugs right into the bulkhead connector. I drilled a hole on the passenger side firewall for the logic module wires to pass through. You'll need a turbo Omni passenger side kick panel to cover the logic module. I also converted it to T-II specs so I had to wire in the TPS and AIS connectors, as well as moving the map sensor outside the car. My car had a TSB electric fuel pump kit installed at the dealer at some point so it was already wired for an electric pump complete with ASD relay. I didn't have to mess with the dash harness AT ALL. The power loss light is there all you have to do is install a bulb and it will work. Nothing that I have done was difficult it was just time consuming and searching for the RIGHT answers to certain obsticles that popped up. GOOD LUCK!

I guess the key would be to search for an Omni wiring harness. The CSX harness must have been what screwed me over.

Yeah the Omni harness lays right into an L body. MAkes the swap a cake walk without havinG the engine harness being too long.

Its not even the lenght thats the problem, its just that most of the dash components do not hook up to the CSX harness. THe connectors are just plain different. Major PITA.

If the bulkhead plugs are wired different then a GLH or Shelby Charger harness would solve a lot of problems for you.

Thanks a LOT EVERYBODY.

Now I will begin searching for an L-body wiring harness to avoid all the problems. I did not know the underdash connections were so different.

thanks again.
