1994 Dodge Caravan, Turb-ified.

I don't recall if I used the alternator off my 94 TBI engine, or my 89 Turbo-I engine. Is there any way to tell? On the back of the alternator I see a ND symbol. I assume it's a nippondenso.

In any case, I need a new one (2 bolts broke off it) and I don't know which to get. Thanks alot

Get the Nippendenso, it is a better alternator.

I mean...are there any differences between the 94 alternator or the 89?

I have to buy one or the other, and I don't recall which one I put on the van.

Autozone begged to differ. The 89 alternators were alot cheaper for some reason. I know now!

Kick ass.

Thanks.

edit:

There are two alternators. 90 amp and 120 amp. do I really need the 120 amp? it's $70 more...

Edit: I checked my alternator. On it says

Family: 90HS.
90 amps I assume

I guess I'll buy a 90 amp alternator then.

When I tried to get an alt for my 85 NAPA came back with the wrong one. I'm leary of trusting their "databases", if possible I would bring the old one with you. You'll want to anyways if they have a core charge.

I lost a 90amp alternator on my 91 Spirit last Saturday. I was just driving and all of the sudden my heater motor winds down, lights dim and the "Check gages" light comes on. It was the smaller Denso unit (with no pulley fan). I didn't want to blow any cash on something. I ended up using a spare from my old 88 Daytona I had laying around. It too was a 90amp, but it was a Bosch (I think - the bigger one with the fins). I swapped the pulleys and had to enlarge one bolt hole (front mount) but it works just fine. This is the first time I've EVER lost an alternator on any FWD Dodge.

For the Denso 90 amp, I was getting prices from $120-$150. For the 120 amp, it was $148 to $165. If you have alot of power options, you'll want the 120 amp. I only have power seat and rear defroster (which doesn't work anyway) so 90 amp is fine. I will tell you that, between the 90 amp Denso and the 90 amp Bosch unit - the Bosch seems to put out ALOT more juice. I don't get weird low RPM voltage dips like I use too.

The Nippendenso alternator is FAR superior to the Bosch.

The 120 amp Nippendenso is only $10.00 more than the 90 amp Bosch.

And I'm not a Bosch fan. That's just my scenario.
