I remember taking the canister off my VNT turbo about 1.5 years ago while it was still on the car. Ya, that was fun. You need the smallest wrenches you can find (I dont recall the size) to get it apart (prob like a 4-6 mm open end)

I finally got the bottom one off while on the car,but the snap ring flew. Does anyone know where I can find another one? I ended up having to pull the head again. I couldn`t get the top brack bolt off.

If you go with arp bolts or studs you can reuse them.

If he is the one selling the Turbos on ebay it looks like the turbo pictured in the auction both have bent nipples. I'm sure it the same picture, but it sounds to be common among all the Turbo's he's selling.

Yes, I've been bidding on them. I still want to hang a VNT off the Back of my DOHC '98 Neon R/T. I'll just know better than try to bend the nipple back into position.

Well, I just bought a new turbo from Roscoe. I am an A&P Licensed aircraft mechanic and will say this. How could you get a turbo and not see the can was missing a nipple? After seeing the bent nipple on the pic on ebay, that is the FIRST thing I would have looked at when I pull my turbo out of the box. To not see it untill its been INSTALLED is VERY HARD to believe. First instinct would tell me to starighten it, Roscoe went out of his way to tell me his experience in that it WILL break off if you try and do so, I will leave it alone, why make the same mistake.
These are the LAST of the LAST on these new VNT turbo's, plain and simple. So some nipples are bent, some cans might have a ding and thats life. At the price he is selling them , you could buy a new can and still be under $500 for a unit that sold originally for $1200. You also could rebuilt your unit and use your old can for I dunno maybe $400 and have a rebuilt turbo, not new. There are some issues with rebuilt VNT's I read about. Seems some rebuilders do not set the VNT angles correctly or something. So, buy a new one or rebuild, at $400 its a deal. Roscoe went into detail about getting a new oil line, replacing all oil lines and so forth and even giving me p/n's. As an aircraft mechanic, I was trained and I am smart enough that I will change all the lines, water and oil. In aviation, all lines get replaced at 10 years no matter what. These VNT's in our cars are 15 years old! You could flex that line while changing the turbo, a small piece of that line breaks off from the inside and blocks the oil from getting to the bearings and you new turbo is toast over a oil line being reused. Cleaning is a BIG mistake as well. I ADVISE anyone that needs a new turbo to get one while they are available! As for Roscoe, he is very knowledgable in this field and an asset to us Turbo fans that need info. We are all in this for the same reason, our love of cars and especially the VNT's. I know I got a great deal on my new VNT turbo.

The VNT turbo can be rebuilt for $300 and a 3-4 day turnaround by John Craig at Limit Engineering ( www.limitengineering.com). Even if the vac canister was bad, new ones can be found in the $100 range (call around to the various rebuilders like I did).
Personally, I would find one *used* in the $100-$150 range and get it rebuilt then buy something that was dropped or bounced off the floor and damaged. Now I am not bashing the person who is selling them in any way, and the price is decent for what you get, but by not 100% being honest with the buyer on the bent nipple(s) (from being dropped I presume) or the possibility of any other damage is a bit dishonest.

This is 100% correct.I also checked his current auction and he still has made no note of the nipple in his auction and he does know it`s a problem. You can obviously see that it`s bent.
